Today's Route (actual)
Today was a challenging riding day....rain most of the day and, in places, rough roads. Gravel, potholes combined with the rain was the order of the day.
We spent the day on the fabulous Alaska Highway.
The Historic Air Force Lodge in Watson Lake, Yukon was built to support the flyers during the building of the Alaska Highway. Michael Lexow and his family have preserved the spirit of the accommodations. The rooms were very clean and comfortable and Michael's hospitality was great. Our pilots, Airwick and Milk Man felt right at home amongst the ghosts of the pilots who had stayed there in the 40's.

Cold Fingers and CB working on the website....ride....eat...sleep... and website...just like the frontier days...
This bus was being built for the London Transit Authority...a double-decker bus, at a economy price...

Swamp Donkey is patiently waiting for the coffee to take effect. Breakfast was at the Rancheria Cafe in the mountains...

Breakfast was a local delicacy called The Yukon Breakfast.
3 eggs
2 Hotcakes
6 strips of Bacon
Potatoes
Toast

Obviously, this isn't Radar's plate! There is food left over...we could hear the arteries hardening!

CB continues his career pursuit tending bar under the watchful eye of Wally.
Art, our chef and Linda our server interviewed Cold Fingers for a dishwasher position...he failed the dried yolk test, so it was back to the road.

Patty displays the menu with Airwick...it took 15 minutes for him to find the right expression...
The view coming in to Teslin, Yukon. We noticed that the locals call this territory Yukon...we southerners tend to call it "The Yukon" for some reason.
We also noticed that the locals are less and less impressed by our expedition the further we go..... below the 60th parallel, people were in awe....now we have learned that a group of girl guides did it on bicycles and a team of retired nuns on roller skates.
Cold Fingers changes his socks in one of Whitehorse's fine restaurants...not too classy....Cold Finger, let's try and maintain the standards of the (not so) Roughriders for the rest of the trip! Deb, your image is imprinted on our minds forever ... no need for a picture here!

No trip is complete without a stop at the local Harley dealer. Catherine, Selina, Red and their dog Dowser explain that they have no Honda parts. Great people...thanks for your warm and friendly service! (Milk Man, you can't take Dowser with you...)
Our sentiments exactly...
The Canadian and US Governments were concerned about Airwick's impact on the environment and after a joint meeting in Ottawa, dispatched this unusual chase vehicle to support our trip through the North.
A special message from Radar to the love of his life....see you in ten days.
Radar shows CB how to operate his CB radio...about time, we've been on the road for 8 days. Push to talk...let go to listen....
CB shows his roots....also, your first peek into the "Command(o) Vehicle"
Our convoy...
We couldn't drive past this point without stopping for a picture or two...
The timer feature on Swamp Donkey's camera was a little complicated (or we were a little slow)...this picture took 5 tries while we stood in the middle of the Highway.

Lake Kluane was breathtaking...we had to talk Milk Man out of camping here...in the rain....miles away from food....no pots and pans.."Hey guys, if we camp...it better be in a Mall parking lot"

Breathtaking!
Jim and Dorothy Cook's place was a blast...they had built it 37 years ago....Hot coffee and Dorothy's strawberry rhubarb squares were a welcome treat after a long day on the road.
So true...Jim should have been a
stand up comedian...
We asked where they catch fish around here...in the mouth, he replied.
Buddy was always ready for a photo opportunity...they took him from an abusive family and he couldn't have been a happier (and luckier) dog! We asked Jim what kind of a dog Buddy is and Jim's answer .... "a male". Jim and Dorothy, you are special people and we will always remember this as a highlight of our trip...
Quite an inventory....
...and finally some heat...the electric jacket just wasn't enough, Radar?
The scene speaks for itself!
CB and Swamp Donkey went on a little adventure. Not sure what happened, and we don't want to know.
The Milk Man was always ready to pitch in and help with the daily web page updates.
