Today's Route (planned)

Today's Route (actual)

Yesterday's ride took its toll on the group, but we were OK after a good meal, a few Canadian beers in a very smoky room, and finally a warm, dry night's sleep in the Westmark.  The smoky room was a little ironic as it was filled with firefighters (smokejumpers), because there was a major forest fire (8,700 hectare) going a few miles away from town.

This gentleman, Ron, is an employee of the Canadian government, and was in Beaver Creek designing an evacuation plan for the community due to the fire.  Here's CB giving him some helpful advice......"No, I don't think that's going to work.  Maybe you need to rethink that "women and children first" thing!"

Our bikes will never look the same again!

CB decided to take things into his own hands, and was recruited into a new career opportunity.  "Let's go over that again.  I have to jump out of a perfectly good helicopter into a burning inferno below?  Will I get sooty?"

After catching his look in the side mirror of the truck....CB says, "I'm looking pretty hot, if I have to say so myself!  I hope that Viki digs my new look."

Johann gave the shirt off of his back to make sure that CB was fully prepared for the mission.  Thanks for special goodbye wave, sorry that you're a little behind in your work.

Go get 'em CB!

On the road again.  Sunny, but a little fog.  But most importantly.....NO RAIN!!!

U.S. soil at last.  We had split up into two groups, as Bob and his support team were fighting fires (and working on the web site).

A rest stop at a river inside Alaska.  Our first glimpse of the Alaskan pipeline.

The Milkman makes friends with a local in a fur bikini.   "Watch where those hands are going, Mister!"

Bill learns how to pan for gold, and it looks like he's hit pay dirt.  Might be the end of the journey, as he's got a whole new perspective.

Gary asks, "Are you sure that you don't want to sit on the back of my bike?" to a local maiden.

The RCMP always get their man!  We knew that it would just be a matter of time, and they were waiting for him at the border.

We befriend a group of Canadian bikers, in route from Quebec and heading for Sturgis.  Have a good journey Jean Pierre, Luke, Renee and Coyote!

No more ice cream bars, peanut M&M's and gummy hamburgers.  It's time for some health food.  For lunch we had some manly egg, ham, broccoli dish served in a pie pastry.  OK, it was quiche, but we had a side of bear claws -- now that's manly, isn't it?

The lovely Alex and Katie baked each and every delicacy that we ate for lunch.  Thanks for a great meal!

Back to the ride.

Another swamp donkey in the bush.

The road isn't always paved.

But sometimes it is just plain breathtaking.

A local pathway, we're guessing that it ends at a watering hole.

Swamp Donkey says...."can you believe this scenery?"  To everyone at Harbour Island, just wanted to let you know that we're safe and having a great trip.

The Oil Sheik rolling down the highway.  Nice bike.

We played a little poker the night before, and Cold Fingers rides off on his winnings -- sorry Milkman.

Mile 1422 and the end of the road, at least the end of the Alaskan Highway segment of our journey.

Coming in to Fairbanks, the Milkman's reputation has got him in trouble with the law again.  This time it's the U.S. Air Force, and they're not playing around.  No pictures of our F-16's please, and Dave is thinking...." I hope that they don't run a prior record check on me!"

Oh, by the way, as U.S. taxpayers, not all of us felt obliged to delete all of our pictures.

Thanks to the folks at Fairbanks Harley, the Farthest North Outpost.  Jerry and Greg fixed us up nicely, and got us ready for the return ride.  Thanks for putting in the extra time on a Friday night to keep us well-lubed.

Cold Fingers gets some gift giving help from Shanna.  Thanks for the hotel recommendation, and good luck on the train thing for the rest of the season.

Another Gold Wing bites the dust.

Radar, don't forget to check that kill switch before calling over the mechanic.

A fine dinner in Fairbanks, overlooking the river.  Thanks to Nazife (from Bulgaria) and Lindsey (from Alaska) for our fine meal and service.

A few more cocktails and every thing started to get a little dark on us.  Can you believe that it's after 11:00 PM?
